Wall Paint Ideas
If you’ve found your way to this website, it’s probably safe to assume that you’re getting ready to paint at least one room of your house, and that you’re not content with the same old-same old off white colors that your parents might have chosen. You’re looking for wall paint ideas that will knock everyone’s socks off. Am I right? Well, you’re in luck, because I’m hear to give you a plethora of great wall painting ideas that I’ve come up with through my long career as a house painter!
The first thing to consider is the paint colors that you’ll choose. Even if boring old beige or off white isn’t your idea of an exciting color scheme for your living room, that doesn’t mean that you should eschew traditional colors entirely. There is a world of options nowadays when it comes to muted colors. If you want to keep things bright and traditional without being boring, you can choose non-traditional off whites such as the colors “Eggshell”, “Satin Wedding Dress” or “Cumulonimbus”. If you’re feeling a little bolder, it’s becoming quite popular to paint with bright, bold colors. There are literally thousands of shades of reds, greens, yellows, and browns that look great on a wall. The one word of cau
tion that I would give when it comes to painting with bold colors such as these is that they can make a room appear smaller. If you are excited about wall paint ideas that include these colors, then you can follow these tips: 1)If your room is small and/or doesn’t get a lot of natural light, choose light, bright shades. 2)If your room is large, or already gets a lot of natural light, then you can pretty much go crazy – you don’t have to worry about whether a shade will appear too dark.
After you’ve chosen a main paint color for your room, you need to choose the colors for the trim and the accents. There are a variety of tools online that will help you to figure out which paint colors complement other colors of paint well. The last thing that you want is to get the paint on the walls and then to discover that your accent colors or runners clash with the main color of your room!
Next, think about the other qualities of the paint. You can choose a matte finish, or a glossy or even satin finish. This really comes down to personal preference. Do you like it better when the paint on a wall is shiny or dull looking? If you like shiny, then go glossy or satin. Often a good compromise is to use a semi-gloss. I choose this finish for nearly all of my wall paint ideas.
Finally, the last thing to thing about is whether to use any kind of special painting effects. You will get a different look with rollers than you will with paint brushes. And if you’re really feeling ambitious, you can use old rags to roll the paint on to attain a textured effect. You can even use sponges to give a dappled look. If you do use sponges, just take care, because if you don’t do it properly, it can come off looking very amateurish and tacky.
